AIIMS Delhi to intensify e-hospital security to prevent cyber attacks

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi was recently hit by a cyber attack that affected its working for many days. Reportedly, the hackers from China were responsible for this cyber attack. Now, to prevent any such incidents in the future, AIIMS has decided to strengthen its e-hospital network.

An office memorandum issued by institute director Dr M Srinivas, said that the AIIMS LAN or internet will not be used or allowed for any other purpose.

The computer facility department of AIIMS will be held responsible for the security of the e-hospital network and they are going to maintain the database of all the IT equipment accessing the same, as reported by Millenium Post.

The order further added that the security of the open internet networks and their devices (anti-virus, strong passwords, responsible internet access, etc.) are going to be the responsibility of the respective user departments. These departments will maintain a database of all the users and equipment allowed or authorized to connect to the open internet network.

“Open internet services are critical requirements for research, academic, & administrative purpose. These services shall be procured from MTNL on reasonable rent and maintained by respective user departments within their respective research funds or approved GIA-General funds, as applicable,” reads the office memorandum.

For open internet services requisitioned by user departments, the engineering services department will facilitate power point requirements and coordinate with MTNL service providers for laying of internet cable/wire, and also maintain the database, added the office memorandum.
