All India Students Union demands NEET UG Twice a Year

All India Student’s Union (AISU), on behalf of NEET UG aspirants and their parents, submitted a representation to the Chairman of the National Medical Commission and requested to conduct the NEET UG examination twice a year.

One of the main reasons cited for this demand is that the NEET UG exam once a year puts immense pressure on the student which causes anxiety and stress. Also, those who could not perform their best due to many reasons including poor health, personal emergencies, or lack of adequate preparation time will get a chance to appear in the exam again in the same year.

As per AISU, conducting NEET twice a year will save a lot of precious time as the candidates will not need to wait for the whole year to appear in the exam. The letter also highlighted that almost 18 to 20 lakh students give this exam every year and hence it must be conducted twice a year.

“Getting two chances in NEET will also help students prepare with a better strategy. They will not only get adequate time for preparation but can strategise in a better way as well. In fact, they will get more time to prepare since they will get not one but two chances to prepare. If they feel underprepared, they can opt for the second date. And if they appear for the first slot and feel that their performance was not up to the mark, they can opt for the second attempt as well with a better NEET preparation scheme and exam taking strategy, the learning which they would acquire in the first attempt,” says the letter.

AIJNSA also submitted a letter to top medical colleges of India including AIIMS, AFMC, JIPMER etc seeking their opinion on conducting NEET more than once a year like JEE Advanced.

AIJNSA tweeted, “@AIJNSA_official submitted a letter to top medical colleges in India - All AIIMS, AFMC, JIPMER etc seeking their opinion on conducting #neet like JEE Advanced. We need to address the irregularities in NEETUG under NTA and explore better ways to conduct the exam.”
