AMU: Docs on strike in Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital

The resident doctors of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital of Aligarh Muslim University are protesting against the incident that occurred on August 16, 2023, involving a physical assault on a resident of the Surgery Department (on duty) while he was providing care to the patient.

In a letter written to the Casualty Medical Officer, the doctors said, "We strongly demand safety at our workplace to do our duty by ensuring communication between security personnel and resident doctors to limit these kinds of incidents in the hospital and manage any such scenario before the damage. We want AMU students to be treated in the M.A.S (U.H.S) unless tertiary care is indicated. We want an FIR to be registered under the name of the assault on (on duty doctor) on the patient and patient's attendants. Until then, we, the resident doctors of JNMCH hereby declare STRIKE i.e., no doctor with immediate effect will be attending to any duties until resolution of all our demands."

RDA Uttar Pradesh tweeted, "@RDA_UP stand in solidarity with protesting residents doctors of @AMUofficialPRO in their lawful demand. We will escalate the protest at state level if time bound action is not taken."

All resident doctors shall not attend to their duties including all routine and emergency duties, seminars and CCMs, labs and blood bank, ICUs, Labour rooms, and all academic activities, said the doctors.
