AMU: J.N. Medical College's Resident Doctors Get Award

Dr. Shivank Khurana, a third-year Junior Resident from the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University got the prestigious “Dr. A.K. Varshney E-Poster Gold Medal” at the 48th Annual Conference of Uttar Pradesh Orthopaedic Association (UPORTHOCON-2024), held recently at Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. He was selected for the award beating 11 other competitors coming from other colleges.

Another resident doctor from the department, Dr. Madhav Chowdhry won the Bhagwan Prasad Medal for the best paper published in the Journal of Bone and Joint Diseases in the academic year 2023-2024.

Prof Aamir Bin Sabir, a senior faculty member at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, AMU, delivered a talk on ‘Hip Arthroplasty’ and Dr. Yasir Salam Siddiqui spoke on ‘Proximal Humeral fracture management’. Dr. Manoj Mittal delivered Dr. Abbas Ali Khan oration.

Prof. Abdul Qayyum Khan, Chairman, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, and other faculty members congratulated the residents for their accomplishment. 

The Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and hospital established in 1962 has been ranked in top 15 Medical colleges in India and presently ranked 22 among medical colleges by NIRF. College has 26 Departments and 3 Centres. The Faculty consists of 226 qualified and experienced teachers.

The hospital provides quality specialized patient care at a nominal cost. The Staff and doctors played a decisive role in the recent pandemic. The college was one of the centres of ICMR Covaxin trials and was the first to enrol 1,000 volunteers for the vaccine trial. The efforts of the doctors were lauded by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The college has a cherished history and has earned for itself a place of pride in the field of medical education, according to a stated official statement.
