AMU: RHTC at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College revolutionalizing rural healthcare

Covering six registered villages, namely Jawan Sikandarpur, Chhota Jawan, Gadia Bhojpur, Sumera, Tejpur, and Jawan, the RHTC caters to a population of approximately 24,000 individuals. The Rural Health Training Centre offers a wide range of treatments, screening facilities, and tests, ensuring comprehensive healthcare services. Additionally, it provides free essential medicines to the rural population.

The Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC) at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, AMU, is taking significant strides to improve healthcare services in rural areas. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by rural populations, the RHTC has embraced a comprehensive approach to address the healthcare needs of Aligarh's rural communities.

While inaugurating the newly renovated building, Prof. Mohd Gulrez, Vice Chancellor of AMU, lauded the RHTC's pivotal role since its establishment in 1968 and said that this transformed center is now equipped to provide high-quality healthcare services at no cost to the local rural population.

The event, organized by Prof. Saira Mehnaz (Chairman) with her team, was attended by university officials including Prof. M Mohsin Khan (Finance Officer), Prof. Veena Maheshwari (Dean of the Faculty of Medicine), Prof. Rakesh Bhargava (Principal of J.N. Medical College), the Executive Committee Members Prof. Moinuddin (Department of Biochemistry), and Prof. Mohammad Shameem (Department of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases).

Prof Saira informed that the RHTC initiatives include the Anemia Mukt Bharat plan, National Tuberculosis Elimination Program, National Program for Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases, National Vector Borne Disease Control Program, regular antenatal services, family planning services, National STI/RTI Prevention and Control Program, routine immunization of children through the National Immunization Schedule, and integrated management of neonatal and childhood illnesses (IMNCI) for neonates and children under 5 years. To further promote health awareness, the center frequently celebrates health days, fostering a deeper understanding of prevalent health conditions in the community.

As a symbol of their commitment to sustainable and holistic healthcare, a plantation drive was organized during the inauguration ceremony at the RHTC campus.
