Andhra Pradesh: Junior doctors demand stipend hike

Andhra Pradesh junior resident doctors have been demanding a stipend increase. As per these doctors, the government is testing their patience by not increasing the stipends since January this year, normally the stipends will have to be revised once in two years. The last increase hike was given in 2020, hence now the doctors want a further hike in the stipend from January 1, 2022.

As per Hans India report, the doctors have said that their salaries are lowest when compared to the salaries of junior doctors of any other state and the successive government have been ignoring their pleas to address this problem. They alleged that instead of increasing the stipends on par with the neighbouring states the government is not even giving them the regular hike in two years, the last hike was also given after the protest.

The president of APJUDA Dr Jangam Jeshwanth said that they have submitted several representations to the Minister for Health, Director of Medical Education and other officials requesting the hike in stipends.

UG, PG students of Andhra Pradesh GMCs allege lack of amenities in colleges

The medical students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the government medical colleges of the state have decried the lack of proper amenities in the colleges.

Students of various medical colleges in the state said there are no proper hostel accommodations in the colleges despite the government's focus on the renovation of existing buildings, installing state-of-the-art medical equipment and strengthening manpower as part of its plan to accord top priority to healthcare. The students are forced to share hostel rooms and a minimum of three UGs or PGs or more are staying in one room which is supposed to accommodate just two, as reported by Deccan Chronicle.
