Another Tamil Nadu teen commits suicide fearing NEET 2021 results
After a NEET aspirant died allegedly by suicide in Tamil Nadu on Sunday, once again a teenaged girl died reportedly by suicide fearing the NEET 2021 results.
On Monday, the Tamil Nadu assembly passed a bill to permanently eliminate the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) from the state when the matter of the suicide of a NEET 2021 aspirant echoed in the assembly.
The bill was supported by most of the opposition parties excluding the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Now, in yet another similar incident, a 17-year-old girl in the Ariyalur district in Tamil Nadu died allegedly by suicide just a day after taking the medical entrance exam, NEET 2021. She had scored 93% in class 12 exams and as per the police, she was fearing that she might not be able to clear the NEET 2021 exam.
The incident took place on the same day when the state assembly passed the bill to scrap NEET and provide medical admissions on the basis of Class 12 marks. There had been a long-standing demand in Tamil Nadu to eliminate NEET as based on the state government's study the NEET entrance exam favours the wealthy students and drives away the poor students. This results in students from backward communities taking extreme steps despite scoring good in their 12th examination.
