AP Minister seeks Centre's financial support for 17 new medical colleges

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has responded positively to the appeal of Minister for Health, Medical, Family Welfare and Medical Education Vidadala Rajani for 17 new medical colleges in the state.

Andhra Pradesh Minister for Health, Medical, Family Welfare and Medical Education Vidadala Rajani met Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mansukh Mandaviya at Central Medical and Health Department in New Delhi and discussed several issues. She appealed to the Union Minister to provide the Union government’s financial support for the 17 new medical colleges being built in Andhra Pradesh and handed over requisitions.

Mansukh Mandaviya responded positively to the state's demand and assured the minister that the funds will be granted for the construction of medical colleges in AP. Principal Secretary (Health, Medical and Family Welfare ) MT Krishna Babu and others participated in the programme, as reported by New Indian Express.

The state minister explained to Mansukh Mandaviya about the developments in the medical sector in the state and about the Family Physician concept and YSR Health Clinics.

She explained that they are completely changing the appearance of government hospitals in the state with funds of more than 16 thousand crore rupees.

Centre approved 630 PG medical seats in AP

Recently, the Centre approved a total of 630 PG medical seats out of 688 PG seats proposed by the Andhra Pradesh government. The Central government also gave the green signal for strengthening 11 government medical colleges in the state.

The approved cost for strengthening and upgradation of the government medical colleges under the Phase II of the Centrally-sponsored scheme is INR 756 crore. Of the total, the share of the Centre is INR 453.6 crore (60%) and the remaining INR 302.4 crore (40%) will be borne by the state government.
