A job advertisement by Kripa Foundation, De-addiction cum Rehabilitation Centre at Lekhi, Itanagar Capital Region (ICR), Arunachal Pradesh has raised many eyebrows as this foundation supported by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh (GOAP) invited applications for Medical Officer post at the monthly salary of INR 11,000.
Medical seats in India, which are highly competitive to get, cost a student and his/her family lakhs of rupees, and usually promise a well-paying and respectable career. However, a job advertisement by the Arunachal government says that they are hiring Medical Officer at a monthly salary of INR 11,000.
The qualification required for the Medical Officer post is MBBS with registration with the medical council/medical commission.
Dr Jagadish J Hiremath, of Advanced Academy for Surgery, Robotics and Arthroplasty highlighted this advertisement on Twitter and said that the cook and ward boys who are 8th pass are getting the same salary and data entry operators and Yoga therapists are also getting more than Medical Officers.
He said, "Govt of Arunachal Pradesh wants Medical Officers MBBS passed, salary payable is INR 11000/- Cook & ward boys who are 8th pass get the same salary as doctors. Data entry operators & Yoga therapists get INR 15000/- as salary. The best part is that the ANM Male nurse gets INR 15000/- which is more than what the doctor would get."
"Counselor, Sr Counselor & Clinical psychologist all get almost double of what the doctor gets as salary. I kind of knew; we would reach this situation soon. With every district today having a medical college, it will be tougher for young doctors in future. If you are looking to be a doctor, think a thousand times, if you are paying in crores to become a doctor in Pvt Medical Colleges then stop, it might be a good idea to hold on to your money," he added.
