Assam: PG Doctors, Interns demand immediate release of stipend

Assam's PG resident doctors and interns have reportedly not received their stipend for the last two months, and now the junior doctors association has demanded an immediate release of the stipend.

Junior Doctors' Association (GMCH) tweet reads, "We demand urgent release of stipend of PG resident doctors and Interns for the months of March & April 2023. Despite working 24*7 even during festive seasons like Bihu and Eid, it is unfortunate that we need to demand for our stipend."

"Also, we demand for hike of stipend by 15% which is a long due proposed (since July,2021). We want urgent intervention from CMO and health minister and assure us to fullfil our demand by first week of may," said the association.

Otherwise, all Assam JDA will be forced to take up more stringent steps in the coming days, added the statement.

One of the replies to the tweet, stated, "We Doctors, particularly the PG residents and interns, have given our undivided attention to the people of our community for their good health and well affair. It is very disheartening to realize the quality of support we get from the government. Please do the needful Sir."

"PG doctors not getting monthly stipend is a crime. They manage the entire show at the hospital sacrificing their comfort. So, appeal to honourable CM of Assam to release the salary at the earliest. India needs Doctors but we must care for them.," said another tweet.

PM Narendra Modi inaugurated AIIMS Guwahati and three new medical colleges recently in Assam. The three medical colleges are at Nalbari, Nagaon and Kokrajhar.
