Bihar: GMCs to not charge fees from FMGs instead pay stipend
Amid the acute shortage of mandatory internship opportunities for Foreign Medical Graduates in India, the Bihar government announced that the Government Medical Colleges in the state will not charge any fees from the FMG candidates, read here for more details.
Bihar government has come in support of the Foreign Medical Graduates of India and announced that the government medical colleges and hospitals in the state will not charge any fees from them instead, the government said that they will be provided stipends and other facilities at par with those extended to Indian medical graduates.
As per the report of Economics Times, the decision was taken at the state cabinet meeting on Tuesday chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
"Now, government medical colleges or hospitals will not charge any fee from the medical graduates from abroad for permitting them to do internships in the state," said S Siddharth, Additional Chief Secretary (Cabinet Secretariat).
"The maximum FMG quota in internship will be 7.5 per cent of the institute's total permitted seats. Majority of the FMGs were those who returned to India after the COVID-19 outbreak and the Ukkraine war with incomplete internships," he told reporters.
Yesterday, the President of the Delhi Medical Association and Executive Member of the Delhi Medical Council, Dr Ashwini Dalmiya, also announced that the Delhi Medical Council will release one more list of FMG internships.
Recently, the FMGs of India protested to demand sufficient internship opportunities in India as due to a shortage of opportunities, many doctors wait for doing an internship after clearing the FMGE exams.
