Bihar government yet to provide land for AIIMS Darbhanga, Govt informs Parliament
In another development, the Bihar Government on Thursday submitted a new proposal for the construction of Bihar's second AIIMS at Shobhan Bypass in Darbhanga district.
The Health Ministry has informed the Parliament that the Bihar government has not allocated land for the establishment of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences at Darbhanga in Bihar. The Union Government has been facing criticism from the opposition for not being able to establish AIIMS in Darbhanga, which was announced in 2020.
While replying to a question in Lok Sabha on the details of the AIIMS projects sanctioned during the last nine years 2015-23, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya informed that 15 AIIMS projects have been sanctioned during the last nine years (2015-2023), and MBBS classes have commenced at 12 such institutes.
Sharing details of AIIMS Darbhanga (Bihar), which was announced during the first COVID-19 wave in September 2020, the Minister stated that encumbrance-free land has not been handed over by the State Government.
Bihar Govt agrees to transfer land for AIIMS
In another development, the Bihar Government on Thursday submitted a new proposal for the construction of Bihar's second AIIMS at Shobhan Bypass in Darbhanga district. Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department submitted the new proposal of the state government to the Secretary of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
In the new proposal, the state government has accepted all the necessary conditions of the central government. In this, Darbhanga AIIMS is to be connected with four-lane connectivity. Also, electricity and water supply have to be restored by levelling the land here. The Central Government has also been requested to construct a new design AIIMS in Darbhanga which will meet the local needs.
