BJP MP from Jharkhand has raised an issue in Rajya Sabha regarding difficulties faced by the Indian medical students studying in China during the Covid 19 pandemic.

Indian medical students studying in China

Mahesh Poddar, BJP MP from Jharkhand, has highlighted in the Rajya Sabha the challenges the Indian medical students are facing while studying in China due to the Covid-19 pandemic and stringent lockdown in China over a couple of months. He has urged the Centre to help these students and make arrangements for them so that they will not be devoid of their practical experience.

He has laid a paper on the table of Special Mention in Rajya Sabha that states, "Two years since the start of the pandemic, Indian students who were studying abroad have been housed within the country. In some cases, they have returned to pursue their education abroad but around 23,000 medical students who were studying in China prior to the pandemic are left in limbo about their education."

"China has been experiencing stringent lockdown over the past couple of months this had made their return to the country very difficult which is impacting their education," the letter added.

He also highlighted that, unlike any other educational field, medical education cannot be pursued virtually only through online classes and the students need practical experiences to practice medicine in the future.

"Therefore, I would request the Government to make some arrangements for these medical students wherein they are not devoid of their practical experience," he added, as reported by TOI.

Earlier, these students had also demanded a mid-year transfer to other countries.
