CBI Registers Case Over Alleged Irregularities in NEET UG 2024 Examination
The Ministry of Education has requested the CBI to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the NEET UG 2024 paper leak allegations, including the potential involvement of public servants. The investigation will cover conspiracy, cheating, impersonation, breach of trust, and destruction of evidence by candidates, institutes, and intermediaries.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a criminal case following allegations of irregularities in the NEET UG 2024 examination. This action is based on a complaint from the Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education.
Allegations and Scope of Investigation
The NEET UG 2024 examination, held on 5th May 2024 by the National Testing Agency (NTA), involved over 23 lakh candidates across 4,750 centers in 571 cities worldwide. Despite the large scale, certain isolated incidents of malpractice, including cheating, impersonation, and conspiracy, have been reported.

The NEET UG 2024 examination has been under scrutiny since the results were announced on 4th June 2024. Allegations of paper leaks and other irregularities quickly emerged, raising concerns among students, parents, and stakeholders. Reports of multiple students scoring identical top ranks and organized cheating at certain centers led to public protests and legal challenges.
The Ministry of Education has emphasized its commitment to maintaining the integrity of national examinations. The recent enactment of the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, further underscores the government’s dedication to preventing malpractice in public examinations. The government assures strict action against any individuals or organizations found guilty in the investigation.
