Centre Approves 10% Quota for Govt Students in Puducherry Medical Colleges
The Union Home Ministry has approved Puducherry's proposal of 10% reservation for students from government schools in medical education. Students from government schools who cleared NEET examination would benefit from this decision.
The Union Home Ministry has given its approval to introduce 10 percent horizontal reservation for students passing out of government higher secondary schools in under graduate medical education.
The reservation came into immediate effect, said a release of the Chief Minister office. Students from government schools who cleared NEET examination would benefit and they should have studied in government schools from standard one.
Chief minister N Rangasamy and Lt Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan in separate press releases thanked the Centre for okaying the proposal of the territorial government.
Top medical colleges in Puducherry
There are some prominent medical colleges in the state including JIPMER Puducherry - Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences, Vinayaka Mission's Medical College and Hospital, Karaikal, Vinayaka Mission's Research, and JIPMER Karaikal - Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research.
CENTAC or Central Admission Committee Puducherry is conducting the NEET UG counselling 2023 process in the state. NEET 2023 was conducted on May 7 and the result was declared on June 13. Announcing the applications, CENTAC has stated, “Candidates should ensure that they are entering All India Counselling Rank against NEET Rank while filling up the application.”
Centralised Admission Committee is the managing body to facilitate the admissions for MBBS, BDS, and BAMS programmes in Puducherry. All the seats available in various medical, dental and Ayurveda colleges will be filled on the basis of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), as guidelines laid by the Indian Medical Council (IMC).
