Chhattisgarh: Doctors' Association announces complete shutdown of medical services
The doctors' association has announced a statewide complete shutdown of routine and emergency medical services from January 19, 2023, due to unheard demands of salary hikes.
The Junior Doctors' Association (JDA) of PT. Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial medical college& Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital called a statewide indefinite agitation due to multiple unheard demands of salary hikes. The association has announced a protest from January 19, 2023, and a complete shutdown of the routine and emergency services in the state.
"The current salary given to the Junior doctors in the state is too less as compared to what the doctors are getting in other states. We have been highlighting this issue for two years now and despite many assurances, no concrete step has been taken in this direction," reads a press release by the doctors' association.
The release also mentioned that in the last 8 years, there has been no increase in the stipend of doctors, whereas, the government has increased the salaries of all other grades of employees in some or other ways.
FORDA India tweet reads, "The interns, resident doctors and senior resident doctors of Chhattisgarh are on a complete strike for their demands of increase in salary which is pending since 4 years. We condemn such a basic mismanagement of government, and wish for a hopeful resolution soon."
"Both OPDs (Outpatient Departments) and IPDs (Inpatient Departments) will remain shut. We understand that the patients will face difficulties but this is the only way left for us to make the government consider our demands," said Dr Gaurav Singh Parihar, Vice-President of Chhattisgarh JDA, as reported by Edexlive.
