Delhi HC directs NEET aspirant to challenge graduate medical education regulations
Delhi High Court has directed a minor National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) aspirant petitioner, seeking the age relaxation for appearing in NEET, to withdraw his plea and instead challenge Regulation 4.1 for the Graduate Medical Education, 1997 that has set the age boundaries.
As per the regulations, to appear in NEET medical entrance exam, the candidate must be of a minimum age of 17 years.
The minor student was denied filling the application form for not attaining the minimum required age. He had approached the court and filed a plea through his local guardian seeking directions to be allowed to appear in NEET. There was a 13-month gap between the petitioner's age and the minimum age required that is 17 years of age.
The student approached the court on August 4. The last date for filling the NEET form was earlier August 6, and later it got extended till August 10. The student has secured 90.2% in Class X and in the Class XII exam, he secured 89%.
In another similar case, the Madras High Court has allowed a 16-year-old girl to appear in NEET. She was only four months and five days short of completing the minimum age criteria.
