After the alleged ragging incident in Dharmapuri Government Medical College Hospital, four students are suspended whereas two wardens have resigned.

Dharmapuri Medical College Hospital's second-year MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) student was found unconscious on Sunday, one week after he had lodged a complaint with the anti-ragging helpline against four senior students. The victim was reportedly living in a hostel and the other students of the hostel alerted the Dharmapuri Government Medical College Hospital administration regarding the incident.

After this incident, four pre-final year students of the college were suspended and two wardens including the chief warden of the hostel have resigned. The student's condition is stable now but the college authorities are being criticised for not taking strict action last week when the student complained about the alleged ragging which pushed the victim to take this extreme step.

As per reports, the victim was allegedly stripped and beaten up by these four seniors. The victim was hospitalised for one day after this incident.

Dean of the medical college hospital K. Amuthavalli said, “The committee submitted its report only on Saturday and over 100 students of Saravanan’s batch were questioned and they said the four students were known to commit such an offence. We had to verify before taking action,” as reported by The Hindu.

“We asked his mother to take him home till the inquiry was completed, but the family refused saying, why should he leave the hostel, while the offenders continued to stay there” the dean added.
