Doctor allegedly assaulted in Assam; Jailed and then got bail
A surgeon in Assam alleged that he was not only assaulted but also jailed based on false FIR by the assaulters.
A first-year DNB Surgery Resident at HAMM (Haji Abdul Majid Memorial Hospital and Research Center), Hojai, Assam has alleged that he was physically assaulted on duty in the emergency department on March 10, 2024. The doctor's name is Dr Sachin Yadav.
As per the details revealed by him, the patient's relative first verbally abused him and then slapped him and dragged him to the ground. When the security guard rescued him, a large number of people gathered at the emergency department and disturbed other patients as well. The doctor has filed a police complaint against the people involved in the incident but no action has been taken in this case, he said.
The relatives of the people also filed one FIR against the doctor, for which he was taken into police custody under Act sec 75 J.J ACT. The doctor was arrested on March 12, 2024, and got bail on the next day. The doctor said that he is having severe mental stress due to this incident, his motive to work and serve the needs as a doctor was taken a hit and he is frightened by this entire situation. He also blamed the media for defaming him without knowing the facts.
Dr Sachin Yadav has requested to quash the case against him and sought a safe environment inside and outside the hospital.
It was yet another incident of serious physical assaults against the doctors. A safer environment to work especially in rural areas has been a long-standing demand of the fraternity.
FAIMA Doctors Association has also raised this issue and said on the X platform, "Shocking news coming from Hojai, Assam regarding the Assault on Surgery resident doctor and doctor made culprit being arrested later got bail.Strict action should be taken on culprits and other concerned."
