Doctor attacked on duty in Jharkhand; FORDA appeals support

At MGM Medical College, Jamshedpur, Dr. Kamlesh Oraon was reportedly subjected to a brutal and unprovoked attack by an aggressive mob while on duty.

As per FORDA's letter to the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, the doctor got severe physical and mental injuries including multiple debilitating grievous wounds, and the daunting prospect of a long road to recovery.

"It is disheartening to note that while several other states have enacted laws to address violence against medical professionals, Jharkhand lacks such protective measures. While we understand that a comprehensive central healthcare protection act is the ultimate solution, we implore the state to take proactive measures to protect its medical professionals under state law," reads FORDA's letter.

FORDA has extended its full support to the doctors in Jharkhand who are bravely taking a stand by initiating a strike to demand justice for their injured colleague and safer working conditions. We wish to emphasize that FORDA, as the largest national resident doctors' association, will vigilantly monitor any actions taken against these protesting doctors. We may be compelled to escalate the matter further if their legitimate concerns are not addressed promptly and adequately, added FORDA.

FORDA's tweet reads, "Urgent Appeal! Medical professionals in Jharkhand need YOUR support! Dr. Kamlesh Oraon, a dedicated doctor, was brutally attacked on duty. We demand justice, Medicare Protection Act for the state, and safer workplaces! We stand with our heroes in their strike and lend full support."
