Over 200 foreign medical graduates gathered outside the NMC India office seeking revocation of the NMC notice denying compensation certificates for online classes. Meanwhile, FORDA came in support of FMGs and assured meeting with officials soon.

FMG Students Protest

The foreign medical graduates have initiated a protest against NMC's recent decision to deny acceptance of compensation certificates for online classes. Reportedly, over 200 FMGs have gathered in front of the National Medical Commission (NMC) office today seeking revocation of the NMC notice denying compensation certificate.

The foreign medical graduates are against the commission's recent notice where the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) of NMC notified that the compensatory certificates obtained by FMGs from institutes abroad for the online classes shall not be considered.

“The #FMG movement! Better, bigger and bolder. Huge numbers gathering just outside the @NMC_IND office. In this sweltering heat, risking heat exhaustion & stroke, risking embarrassment, risking their future, risking their career, risking their parents’ hard-earned money, risking being made to feel out of the system, risking finances which they are never paid” The association shared on X, formerly Twitter.

Meanwhile, FORDA has requested NMC officials to have a dialogue with the students and resolve their concerns more amicably. Further, the association has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consider foreign medical students in their agenda.

"Requesting officials at #NMC to have a dialogue with them, patiently. Resolve their concerns more amicably. There are many helpful ears in the NMC, hopefully, wisdom will take precedence here. PM Narendra Modi, please take up medical students on your agenda. They need you now, more than ever." The tweet further added.

NMC has taken this decision to prevent students from abroad from maliciously obtaining such certificates.

"It has been observed that many FMGs are maliciously obtaining compensatory certificates from their parent universities for the online classes carried by them. The medical profession deals with precious human life, therefore the life of Indian citizens cannot be put at the stake of poorly trained medical professionals." The official notification stated.
