FMGs are day to day victims of hostile polices of NMC, says FAIMA Chairman
The FMGs of India faced many difficulties in recent times, especially in getting the opportunity to undergo the compulsory Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI). Recently, NMC released a clarification on various issues relating to FMGs and said that those undergoing internship must spend a total of three years doing internship. Read here for more details.
Dr. Rohan Krishnan, FAIMA National Chairman, has reacted to the latest clarifications of NMC on various issues relating to FMGs.
His tweet reads, "FMGs are day to day victims of hostile polices of @NMC_IND & @MoHFW_INDIA. One has to understand that FMGs are citizens of our own country . Where the quality of doctors should be ascertained by entrance test. A three year non stipend internship is not good. We at @FAIMA_INDIA_ completely oppose this move of @NMC_IND and we believe that it is waste of time and energy of FMGs. We completely stand with FMGs. & I shall be personally looking over this issue."
"Dear @MoHFW_INDIA and @NMC_IND. Do not make the next generation of kids lose hope in Medicine bcz of unreal&cruel rules®ulations.Students travel abroad not just only bcz they are affordable but their passion too. #FMG Neet UG+6y(study)+3y(CRRI)+Neet PG prep +PG+/- SS," said another tweet.
“Existing FMGs, if any, already performing internship at present, may be allowed to continue with one year of internship. They may subsequently do one year clinical clerkship and one year internship. (Thus a total of three (3) years, before obtaining Permanent Registration from concerned SMC),” said NMC’s notification.
FMGs will have to undergo one (1) year clinical clerkship (CC) in India in lieu of deficiency in their training from their parent medical college. The Indian Medical College may charge clerkship fee from FMGs maximum upto INR 5000/-PM. After successful completion of 1 year clinical clerkship and supported by log book followed by authentication from concerned college authority, they will be allowed to begin CRMI which may be done in medical college or any recognized institute, added NMC.
