FMGs internship issues continue despite NMC's one-time measures
While NMC validated the list of recognized non-teaching hospitals for CRMI of Foreign Medical Graduates, reportedly Kerala, Maharashtra and Assam State Councils are not responding to the NMC's guidelines and DNB institutes not starting the internships and hence the issues are still not resolved.
Dr Ashwini Dalmiya, President-Elect, Delhi Medical Association. Executive Member, Delhi Medical Council. Secretary, MAMCOS, said that the one-time measure by National Medical Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates is not being followed by the state medical councils.
He tweeted, "NMC order dated 9th May regarding FMG internship giving one time benefit in DNB institutes is not being followed by Kerala, Maharashtra, Assam State Councils affecting thousands of FMGs."
"National Medical Council's order of May 9 will be beneficial only if FMGs start an internship in any case on or before June 1, 2023, otherwise the one year period will not be completed by May 31, 2024, the future of thousands of doctors is at stake, UP Council intervention is requested," he said through another tweet.
The candidates have alleged that there is a delay in obtaining a provisional registration number from KSMC and it is the major problem faced by FMGs in Kerala. KSMC is not providing an allotment list nor welcoming the latest NMC guidelines. It will prevent the candidates from getting internship seats within the time frame provided by NMC, thereby, again causing a delay in career progression.
The FMGs candidates have claimed that the Kerala Medical Council is not responding to the NMC's circular and they are delaying the provisional and not allocating DNB institutes to the candidates.
