FORDA demands Swift Justice, Compensation for Dr Vandana Das
The Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) has written to union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya for demanding urgent action for justice in the case of Dr Vandana Das and the safety of medical personnel.
After the young MBBS doctor, Vandana Das was killed in Kerala after being stabbed six times by under trial patient, there is anguish among the medical fraternity. The fraternity is condemning the incident and demands punishment for the culprit. In this regard, now the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) has written to union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya to demand justice and maximum punishment for the accused.
"It is crucial that the ends of justice are met, and we urge you to ensure that the state takes responsibility for its failure to provide security to the doctor," reads FORDA's letter.
Following are the demands of FORDA from the health minister:
- Swift Justice: The association is demanding that the accused is given the maximum punishment for homicide, ensuring that justice is served to the fullest extent of the law.
- Compensation and support: The state failed to provide security to the doctor, they should compensate the family by providing maximum monetary remuneration for the life lost, as is done in recognition of the sacrifice of a martyr. Additionally, provisions should be made for government jobs or employment opportunities for the dependents in the family.
- Healthcare Protection Act: We reiterate our long-standing demand for the implementation of a comprehensive healthcare protection act nationwide. This legislation is essential to safeguard the safety and well-being of healthcare professionals in their workplace, said FORDA.
