FORDA requests permanent registration of FMGE passouts
FORDA has written to union health minister Mansukha Madaviya and demanded permanent registration of FMGE passouts. Read here for more information.
The Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) has written to the union health minister Mansukha Madaviya and urged his intervention in the issue of registration of FMGE passouts.
The association has said that despite the Central government's proactive measures, confusion has arisen among various state medical councils regarding the interpretation and implementation of the notice of the National Medical Commission (NMC).
"While some state medical councils, such as Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana, Assam, Odisha, West Bengal and Rajasthan, have issued permanent registration to FMG graduates from 2015 and 2016 batches who returned to India due to Covid-19 in 2020 and completed their classes online, other state medical councils, such as Delhi, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala have withheld or denied permanent registration," reads FORDA's official statement.
The disparity in the issuance of permanent registration for FMG graduates from the same universities and batches is creating confusion among the affected students.
These students have completed their classes online and achieved identical milestones in terms of passing MBBS, clearing FMGE, and completing their internship. These are the students who returned to India due to the Covid-19 pandemic with the help of the Central government.
FORDA has demanded that these FMGs should get permanent state registration, and exclude students who were already undergoing their internship or had already completed their internship from the purview of this notice, as their hospitals and provisional certificates were based on the previous guidelines. The association has also requested to provide clarity and guidance to all state medical councils to ensure consistent and fair treatment of FMG graduates across the country.
