Himachal Pradesh police confirmed that a student was arrested for allegedly forging documents to gain admission to a medical college. Accused, Kartik Sharma was allotted a seat at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla by Mandi's Atal Medical Research University on November 3 last year, said the police.

As per reports, he was a resident of Bilaspur and got admission into the MBBS course under state quota during the first round of counselling.

An initial probe into the matter revealed that he forged the documents of a female candidate with high merit and replaced her name and photograph with his to sit in counselling, added the police.

"The matter came to light when the National Medical Council (NMC) checked Sharma’s documents," said the police, as reported by The Week.

NMC noticed that the documents given by Sharma did not match the information already uploaded on the website, they informed IGMC about the matter. When the principal of IGMC made a complaint, a case was registered under sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to cheating and forgery at Sadar Police Station, Shimla and the accused got arrested.

IGMC issues office order related to six MBBS students

The medical institute released an office order on December 31 regarding a group of six students each admitted to 1st year-MBBS degree course during the session 2022-23.

The office order reads, "A group of six students each admitted to 1st year-MBBS degree course during the session 2022-23 in this institution is hereby attached with a Teacher/Mentor. They shall maintain a diary for his/her interaction with students regarding any problem being faced by these students"
