India needs 550 new medical colleges by 2030 to match global average of doctors, says KPMG

After the pandemic experience, India realised the significance of a robust healthcare infrastructure. The Central and state governments are all geared to strengthen the healthcare facilities in India. Now, KPMG report has also echoed the fact that India needs more medical colleges and medical workforce in the coming years.

While the states are opening new medical colleges under the Central sponsored scheme, KPMG has predicted that by the year 2030, to match up the global average of doctors, the country needs medical workforce of 7.4 million and at least 550 new medical colleges. The better healthcare system is needed to serve the increasing number of people suffering from communicable and non-communicable diseases (NCDs), said the global consultancy firm KPMG.

The non-communicable diseases will cost India $4.58 trillion by 2030: KPMG

As per the KPMG's latest report, the firm has estimated that the increasing burden of non-communicable diseases such as heart illnesses, diabetes, and cancer expected to cost India $4.58 trillion by 2030, the share of senior citizens in India to increase from 8.6% of the population in 2011 to 13.1% by 2031.
