Kerala: CM Pinarayi Vijayan to launch new facilities at medical college

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will launch new facilities tomorrow at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. These new facilities include linear accelerator at the department of radiotherapy, a comprehensive stroke unit and cathlab, burn ICU and an interventional pulmonology unit.

A medical linear accelerator (LINAC) customizes high-energy x-rays or electrons to conform to a tumour's shape and destroys cancer cells while sparing surrounding normal tissue.

As part of the master plan, the construction works of the MLT block at INR 16 crores are being implemented and it will also be launched at the function, as reported by TOI.

The state government had earlier allotted funds for two anaesthesia workstations, a portable x-ray machine in the cardiovascular thoracic surgery department, an HD3 chip camera for the endoscopy system, a fully automated random access clinical chemistry analyser in the bio-chemistry department, HD laparoscopic set in the general surgery department, fluoroscopy C-arm in gastroenterology department, two transport ventilators in neonatology department and 10 haemodialysis machines.

A master plan for the comprehensive development of the medical college has been envisaged at INR 717.29 crore.

CM Pinarayi Vijayan yesterday inaugurated 50 Family Health Centres (FHC) as part of Aardram Mission that aims to modernise and improve primary healthcare in Kerala. With 630 PHCs already upgraded to FHCs and 104 receiving national recognition, our public health system is becoming a source of pride for India.
