Kerala: MBBS intern dies after attack by under-trial patient

Dr Vandana Das, a 23-year-old house surgeon of Manjoor, Kerala has died after an under-trial patient in police custodian stabbed her six times with the scissors from the dressing room.

A young MBBS doctor died in Kerala after she was stabbed six times by under trial patient. The deceased doctor’s name was Dr Vandana Das. She was a 23-year-old house surgeon in Manjoor, Kerala.

While the accused was undergoing treatment, he attacked her and he was reportedly not handcuffed.

“She is Dr Vandana Das, a 23 year old house surgeon of Manjoor , Kerala . She was stabbed #Six times by under trial patient ( police custodian). Accused was not handcuffed while treatment. When the doctor was dressing the wound, he suddenly attacked the doctor with the scissors from the dressing room. After attacking the five people, Sandeep vandalised the hospital. He also stabbed home guard Alex Kutty and Sub Inspector Manilal.The accused is currently under police custody,” reads a tweet.

“Dr Vandana Das from Kottayam, House surgeon in Azeezia hospital attacked by patient brought by pooyappally police at THQH Kottarakkara today early morning 4 am. Multiple stab injury. She is unconscious, intubated , ventilated and shifted to KIMS Hospital and died,” reads a tweet by RDA GMC Jammu.

IMA condemns the brutal murder of Dr Vandana by patient

“IMA strongly condemns the same and we want to stress the importance of taking action to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. We strongly urge the authorities to take strict action against the culprits for the heinous act and to ensure that the culprit should be punished to the fullest extent of the law,” reads the official statement of IMA.
