King George's Medical University hires bouncers to protect students from ragging
In first of such agreement, King George's Medical University (KGMU) has hired bouncers to protect freshers from ragging.
Last year National Medical Council (NMC) had directed medical colleges to form anti-ragging committees to protect freshers from incidents of ragging. Now, King George's Medical University (KGMU) has gone one step ahead and has reportedly hired bouncers to escort freshers from hostels to classes so that the new students can remain protected from ragging by senior students.
Around 20 bouncers will escort new students from Atal Bihari Vajpayee Scientific Convention centre to their hostel and also from classrooms to hostels, as reported by TOI.
The MBBS academic session starts from August 1 every year, but this year the 2021-22 batch is starting now, it is delayed by almost six and a half months. Due to this, NMC has reduced the duration of the session from 13 months to 11 months.
This is a time when various government and private medical education institutions are set to begin the new academic session of MBBS which has been postponed by over six months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Today, KGMU and Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) will hold induction ceremonies in which students will be administered the Hippocratic oath and aprons will be presented to them by heads of institutions. Around 200 MBBS students will get into RMLIMS and 250 MBBS and 70 BDS students will join KGMU.
KGMU was earlier known as Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University and is located in Lucknow and is well-connected through public transport to other parts of the city. It has two faculties - Faculty of Medical Science and Dental Science. It has 9 medical colleges, 1 paramedical college, and 7 nursing colleges.
