Kolkata Doctor Case: FORDA Calls Off Strike; FAIMA, RDAs Refuse Backing off

Kolkata doctor rape and murder case latest event sees that FORDA has called off the strike owing to acceptance of demand met by the association. Besides, FAIMA and medical college RDA have decided not to back off and continue the strike until the Central Protection Act for healthcare workers is enacted. 

Kolkata Doctor Rape and Murder Case

Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) India has called off the strike against the incident at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital Kolkata doctor rape and murder case. The association has notified that the demand raised by FORDA has been met in full by Union Health Minster, JP Nadda. Besides, the authorities have notified that the assurance is not just verbal assurance and the ministry has ratified the Central Healthcare Protection Act and a commitment has been constituted for the same.

However, several RDAs have condemned the strike call-off decision by FORDA for the justice in Kolkata rape and murder case. To which, FORDA President gave the clarification stating "We understand the sentiments and emotions behind a general disapproval. Our demands, as laid down in previous letters, have been accepted FULLY and not just by means of verbal assurance. We shall deliver what we have promised, in times to come. For the larger good of the medical community. This in no way means that we are not fighting for justice for the deceased, but we believe we have set the right wheels in motion to ensure its swift delivery. In the interest of patient care and under no pressure whatsoever, we hereby call off our strike."

FAIMA to Continue Strike 

The Federation of All India Medical Association FAIMA Doctors Association has refused to call off the strike along with medical college RDAs. FAIMA President Dr Rohan Krishnan clarified saying "We had a meeting with almost all of our associated RDAs with more than 60 medical college RDAs across India. The medicos will not do OPD and elective OTs. However, emergency work will continue. We will not discontinue the strike unless the assurance from the state government and central government about the Central Protection Act."

Medical Student RDA To Strike Today

Several Medical students' RDAs including a total of 3 RDAs including AIIMS Delhi RDA, PGIMER RDA, NIMHANS RDA, AIIMS Patna RDA, JIPMER RDS, AIIMS Kalyani RDA, AIIMS Rishikesh RDA to continue their indefinite strike until their demands are met.
