Lata Mangeshkar Hospital MBBS interns paused strike over INR 100 per day stipend
Other than Bihar, now Nagpur also witnessed the protest by MBBS interns over the stipend issue, interns of Lata Mangeshkar Hospital Nagpur protested for one week and now have decided to conditionally pause the strike for 15 days.
As per reports, more than 140 MBBS intern doctors of Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, Nagpur (LMH) started the protest on August 22, over the stipend they are getting paid which is INR 100 per day. Now after one week of protest, they have decided to conditionally pause their strike for 15 days.
All India Medical Students' Association (AIMSA) tweeted, "Interns of Lata Mangeshkar Hospital Nagpur were on strike for 8 days for their demand of increment in stipend and free accommodation. They are being paid a mere 100rs per day. They wrote letters to their authorities but got no response and hence had to go on strike."
Interns wrote to Dean of Lata Mangeshkar Hospital
The protesting MBBS interns have written to the dean of NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences and Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, Nagpur to inform the dean about the conditional stoppage of agitation from August 29.
The letter said that the interns were protesting to demand an increment over stipend, free accommodation for interns and an electricity bill waiver. However, now the interns have met the authorities and got verbal assurance that their demands shall be tabled to be decided by relevant authorities. The authorities asked interns to resume their work then only they will proceed further with their assurances and said that once they resume duty, the demands shall be fulfilled on an urgent basis except for those of financial concern.
The MBBS interns have decided to take a 15 days pause in the strike to see if the hospital fulfils their demand.
