Lok Sabha Election 2024: No NEP 2020 and NEET in Tamil Nadu, says DMK Manifesto
For the DMK, NEP represents a policy skewed in favor of elitism, disregarding the linguistic and cultural diversity of Tamil Nadu.
In a resolute stance against the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party of Tamil Nadu has unveiled its manifesto ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
In addition to its stance on NEET, the DMK manifesto reaffirms Tamil Nadu's identity by championing the use of the Tamil language in union government job exams.
At the heart of the DMK's manifesto lies a categorical rejection of the NEP 2020, a policy framework introduced by the central government, which the DMK views as detrimental to the interests of Tamil Nadu's students. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, leading the charge against NEP, has consistently advocated for a state-specific education policy tailored to address the unique needs of Tamil Nadu's educational landscape.
The manifesto underscores the DMK's long-standing opposition to NEP, dating back to its inception in 2020. Chief Minister Stalin, in a notable meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, unequivocally expressed Tamil Nadu's dissent towards NEP and its associated initiatives, including NEET. For the DMK, NEP represents a policy skewed in favor of elitism, disregarding the linguistic and cultural diversity of Tamil Nadu.
Chief Minister Stalin has been a vocal critic of NEET, denouncing it as a tool of inequality that exacerbates the educational divide between urban and rural students. The tragic suicides of Jagadeeswaran and his father Selva Sekhar, following Jagadeeswaran's inability to clear NEET, serve as poignant reminders of the human cost of this controversial entrance exam.
In February 2023, in response to NEET-related tragedies and widespread opposition, the DMK government has taken decisive action, introducing anti-NEET legislation in the state assembly. Despite the passage of the bill.
Furthermore, the DMK's manifesto advocates for the abolition of NEET, echoing the sentiments of former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and garnering support from the opposition AIADMK.
In addition to its stance on NEET, the DMK manifesto reaffirms Tamil Nadu's identity by championing the use of the Tamil language in union government job exams.
As Tamil Nadu braces itself for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the DMK's manifesto stands as a testament to its unwavering dedication to the principles of social justice and educational autonomy. In a political landscape fraught with contention, the DMK's resolute opposition to NEP 2020 and NEET serves as a beacon of hope for students and educators alike, heralding a future defined by inclusivity and progress in Tamil Nadu's educational sphere.
