Madras Medical College recognised as regional training centre for 15 medical colleges

The Madras Medical College (MMC) has been recognised as the regional training centre for 15 medical colleges in the government and private sector in Chennai, neighbouring districts, and two colleges each in Karnataka and Kerala.

Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian has confirmed that the Madras Medical College (MMC) has been recognised as the regional training centre for providing training to faculty members of 15 medical colleges in Chennai, Karnataka and Kerala. Another regional training centre will be in Madurai in two days, he added.

He inaugurated the regional educational training centre and several other facilities for the doctors at Madras Medical College and Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital on Monday. This would enable faculty members of medical colleges to improve their knowledge and skills.

"Medical Rest Room, Special Treatment Room, Fish Tank, National Medical Counseling Zonal Center for Medical Education and Technology was inaugurated today at Government Rajiv Gandhi Government Medical College Hospital. #Masubramanian #TNHealthminister #MedicalCounseling," tweeted Ma Subramanian.

"Till now, faculty members had to go to the Christian Medical College, Vellore, Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research for training," said E. Theranirajan, dean of MMC and Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, as reported by The Hindu.

The regional training centre and restrooms for doctors are constructed at the cost of INR 18.50 lakh, and the dormitory for examination invigilators is constructed at a cost of INR 3.80. lakh, Visakha Board Office was constructed at a cost of INR 5.85 lakh. A fish tank was built at a cost of INR 6.80 lakh and a special treatment room was built at a cost of INR 14.90 lakh, as reported by DT Next.

Other regional training centres for medical faculties

About seven private and four government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu have been identified as the regional training centres for medicos. Moreover, two medical colleges - Narayana Medical College and ACSR Government Medical College in Nellore in Andhra, Akash Research Institute of Medical Sciences and East Point Medical College Hospital Research Institute in Bangalore are recognised as the regional training centres for medicos.
