Maharashtra Cabinet approves 6 new nursing colleges
Necessary posts of the 6 new nursing colleges in Maharashtra will be filled with the approval of the high-level secretary committee.
Maharashtra Cabinet held a meeting on Wednesday in which it was decided to set up six government nursing colleges with a student intake of 100 students each. These nursing colleges will be affiliated with Government Medical Colleges in Latur, Jalgaon, Baramati, Sangli (Miraj), Gondia and Nandurbar.
As per the TOI report, the initial four years will see an expenditure of INR 173.8 crore for these six government nursing colleges. From the fifth year onwards, an annual allocation of around INR 14 crore will be provided under the government's initiative.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde chaired the Cabinet meeting and said that the initiative is being taken considering the prevalence of infectious diseases in the state and the country.
The estimated cost for the construction, machinery, furniture, manpower, and daily recurring expenses for each nursing college is INR 32.9 crore. Moreover, for the nursing colleges in Latur, Jalgaon, Sangli (Miraj), and Baramati, the overall expected cost for construction and recurring expenses is around 107.9 crore. Under the centre's scheme, 'Augmenting Nursing Education - Establishment of New Colleges of Nursing in co-location with Medical Colleges,' the nursing colleges in Gondia and Nandurbar will receive INR 10 crore each.
The state has increased the stipend of interns pursuing health sciences courses like medical, dental, Ayurved, Unani, and homoeopathy in various colleges run either by the government or run on grants. Till now the interns were getting INR 11,000/-. Now they will receive INR 18,000/- per month, as reported by The Hitavada.
