Maharashtra govt hikes residents stipend by INR 10K, Docs' Association thanked govt
The statewide strike of doctors that started on February 22, 2024, has ended after the Maharashtra government agreed to increase the residents' stipend by INR 10K.
Maharashtra State Association of Resident Doctors (Central MARD) has thanked the government for increasing the stipend of residents by INR 10K.
"The decision of increment of stipend by rupees 10 thousand, effective from March 1, 2024, for residents across the state, will play a pivotal role to enhance the mental, financial, and social health of each resident doctor individually as well as collectively boost the morale of all the residents," reads the statement of Central MARD.
"Stipend hiked by 10k for all residents in Maharashtra. Regular stipend to be credited before 10th. We Central MARD thank the Government and Hon DCM @AjitPawarSpeaks , Hon Minister for Med Edu @mrhasanmushrif for the cabinet approval. We hereby calloff the pan Maharashtra strike," reads a message by Central MARD on X platform.
"We the Central MARD thank Deputy CM Hon Ajit Pawar Sir, Minister MEDD Hon Hassan Mushrif sir, Secretary of MEDD Dinesh Waghmare Sir. Commissioner MEDD Rajeev Nivatkar Sir, Director of DMER Dr Dilip Mhaisekar Sir. Finance and Meidcal Educaation Ministry and the respective office bearers for working promptly and ensure that demands were executed officially," added the statement.
The Doctors' Association started a statewide strike on February 22, 2024, and continued only the emergency services. The strike started as the doctors had alleged that despite several assurances, governments had not taken any action towards fulfilling their demands.
