After one Indian medical student has died amid the ongoing Russia and Ukraine war and scores of medical students got stranded there and struggling to come back to their homeland, the issue has come to the light that Indian students are opting to study medicine abroad due to affordable fees in these countries.
Maharashtra Medical Education & Cultural Affairs Minister Amit Deshmukh has said that the state government has noted this and has instructed the concerned officials to read the fee structure of the medical colleges of Ukraine and Russia and see it is feasible to provide such facilities here in Maharashtra.
"The government has taken note of the fees for medical education in Russia and Ukraine. We shall study the reasons why these students are going abroad," he said.
"Some work needs to be done to ensure that students planning to go abroad can get those facilities here. Centre and state governments can work on this together," he added, as reported by the Hindustan Times.
