Maharashtra MBBS student found dead in hostel; Police suspects suicide

In yet another case of suspected suicide, a 21-year-old MBBS student of a government medical college in Maharashtra Latur was found dead in her hostel room.

Recently, many medicos have committed suicide and these tragic incidents highlighted the amount of stress medical students are going through. Now, a 21-year-old, first-year student of the MBBS course of the government medical college in Maharashtra Latur was found dead in her hostel room.

Police said that prima facie it is a case of death by suicide, as reported by NDTV.

The student was a resident of the neighbouring Aurangabad city. Police registered the case of accidental death and an investigation is going on into the matter. 

The victim was a first-year MBBS student and was staying in a government hostel located on the college premises, said the police.

"On Tuesday morning, when her friends knocked on the door of the student's room they didn't get any response. Later, the hostel staff broke open the door and found her dead," a police official said.

Recently, many such incidents came to light, Dr Amit Nayak, Jr1 anaesthesia, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia institute of medical science Lucknow committed suicide.

In January, Akanksha Maheshwari (24) of Gwalior, a first-year PG student of Gandhi Medical College (GMC), Bhopal, committed suicide.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) is also collecting data of medical students who have committed suicide in the last five years and doctors on social media platforms also keep highlighting the issue.
