Maharashtra Medical Council, NMC To Train Doctors for Managing Medico-Legal Issues

NMC and MMC will educate medical practitioners to legally handle the allegations of misconduct and appeals filed by patients or their families against them. A workshop will be conducted on Saturday where representatives from medical colleges and district hospitals from Maharashtra State will attend the workshop. 

MMC News Today Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) has partnered with the National Medical Commission (NMC) to educate medical practitioners and provide them with essential expertise and skills to manage medico-legal issues effectively. The need to educate medical students arises due to growing demand from medical council to handle medico-legal cases. The medical practitioners/ doctors have asked to address the allegations of misconduct and appeals filed by the patients and their families against them. 

Workshop on Medico-Legal Issues

Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC), in association with the National Medical Commission (NMC), will conduct a workshop on Saturday where representatives from medical colleges and district hospitals from Maharashtra State will attend the workshop. 

Dr Vinky Rughwani, administrator of MMC said “To begin with, we have designed a workshop, which will be held on Saturday, with the help of the Ethic and Medical Registration Board of NMC. We will have distinguished speakers and trainers from the medico-legal field to share their insights and experiences,” as reported by Hindustan Times. 

Further, the administrator said that the workshop will have several interactive sessions, practical exercises, case studies and hands-on learning experiences for a better understanding of medico-legal issues. 

Need to Educate Medical Practitioners 

“Reportedly, the council has over 1.8 lakh registered doctors with an annual increase of 9,000 registrations. MMC hears both parties of the conflict before reaching any conclusion. Further, local medical colleges and government medical colleges also get such complaints. Hence, the need to educate medical practitioners is required for quick redressal.” Said Dr Runghwani. 

Along with providing medical practitioners with medico-legal cases, MMC has decided to quickly resolve 692 pending cases of medical negligence.
