Maharashtra Notifies New Policy for MBBS, BDS Students; Mandates CSR Service for 1 Year, Know Penalty for Leaving India
Maharashtra's new policy for medical students requires candidates to also sign an undertaking to stay in India for five years post-degree; a penalty of INR 10 Lakh will be imposed for non-compliance.
Maharashtra Medical Education News: A new policy mandating one-year compulsory social responsibility service for MBBS and BDS students studying in government, municipal, government-aided or unaided private institutions has been ratified by the state. However, this compulsory social responsibility service is not applicable for the candidates who are not availing reimbursement of fees/Scholarships. The policy effective for students completing their mandatory internship also includes a penalty of INR 10 Lakh for leaving India before completing five years of service post-degree completion.
The new rules, specified in the Information Brochure of Preference System for Health Science Courses by the Maharashtra State CET Cell state that students who are getting benefits from fee reimbursements or scholarships are obliged to fulfil service as specified by the state cell. Besides, GOI nominees, AIQ quota students as well as state quota students shall be obliged for the aforesaid rules, as reported by Medical Dialogues.
Penalty of INR 10 Lakh for Leaving India
MBBS/ BDS students studying in government and municipal colleges, government-aided or unaided private institutions shall stay in India at least till five years after the completion of their degree. Students who breach their commitment by leaving India shall incur a non-refundable penalty of INR 10 Lakh.
Penalty of Leaving MBBS/ BDS Seat
Further, the brochure highlights that students who join MBBS/ BDS seats during or after the final admission or fail to complete the course after enrolment shall be liable to pay INR 10 Lakh as a penalty.
"Any candidate responsible for lapse of MBBS/BDS seat at Government/Government Aided/Corporation Medical/Dental College will have to pay a Non Refundable penalty of Rs.10,00,000/- (Rupee Ten Lacs Only). This penalty is applicable to all those candidates who do not join during the last round or cancel a seat after the last round of admission. This penalty is also applicable to any candidate resigning a seat after cut off date for MBBS/BDS courses or also fails to complete the course, irrespective of admission quota of the candidate," the official brochure reads.
