Maharashtra: RDA raises academic irregularities at Dept of Ophthalmology JJH

Maharashtra State Association of Resident Doctors Central Mard has written to Girish Mahajan, Minister of medical education, the government of Maharashtra.

The letter highlighted the injustice, difficulties and unacademic environment that is rampant in the Department of Ophthalmology in the apex health institute of the state, JJ Hospital Mumbai. The resident doctors of the Department of Ophthalmology JJH have raised their concerns and complaints against the dictatorial regime of Dr TP Lahane and Dr TP Lahane and Dr Ragini Parekh.

The complaints range from lack of surgical opportunities, lack of academics, lack of research activity and unparliamentary behaviour that the residents face on a regular basis in the department. The primary demand of the resident doctors is the immediate transfer of Dr TP Lahane and Dr Ragini Parekh, the residents also demand that the department should run as per the NMC guidelines which at present is not happening.

"Although the administration of JJH has taken the complaint seriously and has come to the aid of the affected resident's distress by setting up a quick inquiry it was felt by MARD that this issue needs to be escalated to the highest authority of the state in medical education so as to ensure fast tracking of this sensitive issue and prompt action," reads the letter.

"MARD wants to reiterate that it will not tolerate any form of oppression of oppression of its member residents and fight for their right to education and dignity," added the letter.
