MBBS student of Safdarjung Hospital dies; suicide suspected

Delhi Police has confirmed the death of a final year MBBS student of Safdarjung Hospital, she was declared dead after she was taken to hospital.

In a tragic incident, a final year MBBS student of Safdarjung Hospital reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself.

Delhi Police said, "We received a call at 3.30 am that a final year MBBS student committed suicide by hanging herself in her room at MBBS Girls Hostel, Safdarjung hospital. She was declared dead after she was taken to hospital," as reported by Times Now.

The girl had closed the room from the inside which was later forcefully opened by her friends. After the police got a call, an investigative officer reached the spot and found the student hanging in her hostel room using a dupatta. 

The student was then immediately rushed to the emergency ward of the Safdarjung Hospital where she was declared dead. As per reports, a purported handwritten suicide note was found in the diary of the deceased.

There were two empty packets of antidepressant medicine were also found inside the girl's room. The family also reached the spot and their statements are being recorded. Police claim no foul play has been found so far. They have also recorded the statements of other hostel mates and friends of the deceased.

Dr Datta (AIIMS Delhi) tweeted about this incident. The tweet reads, "Another doctor takes her life in a top college of the country! An intern at VMMC (Safdurjung), Delhi hanged herself in her room yesterday night! I believe it's high time we all sit and figure out what's wrong in our system and more importantly how to prevent this in the future!"
