PM Narendra Modi today laid foundation stone of 4 medical colleges in Rajasthan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that teaching medical and technical education in the English language has acted as a barrier for many and with the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 coming in, language barriers will be removed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today virtually inaugurated the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology at Jaipur. PM Modi also laid the foundation stone of four new Medical colleges in Banswara, Sirohi, Hanumangarh and Dausa districts of Rajasthan.

“Children who have not studied in an English medium school will also have access to medical and technical education now,” Modi said.

Modi said that till 2014, the total seats of medical undergraduates (MBBS) and postgraduates in the country were close to 82 thousand. “Today their number is increasing to 1 lakh 40 thousand seats,” PM said.

Speaking on the occasion Modi said that he had to face a lot of hurdles to remove the corrupt Medical Council of India and replace it with the National Medical Commission (NMC), and now that this has happened, this would improve the quality of medical education and healthcare facility in the country.

Talking about the increase in the number of medical colleges in the country, Modi said that in the past six-seven years, more than 170 new medical colleges have been set up and work is going on fast on more than 100 new medical colleges. PM Modi said: “Be it AIIMS, state medical colleges or even super speciality hospitals like AIIMS, it is very important to spread their network rapidly to every nook and corner of the country.”

He said: “Today we can say with satisfaction that India is moving beyond 6 AIIMS to a strong network of more than 22 AIIMS.”

These Medical Colleges have been sanctioned under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for “Establishment of new medical colleges attached with district/ referral hospitals”. Preference to set up medical colleges is given to underserved, backward and Aspirational Districts. Under three phases of the Scheme, 157 new medical colleges have been approved across the nation.

Together with the Government of Rajasthan, the Government of India has established CIPET: Institute of Petrochemicals Technology, Jaipur. It is self-sustainable and dedicatedly serves the needs of the petrochemical and allied industries. It will provide education to youth to become skilled technical professionals.
