Madhya Pradesh government has announced a 5% reservation for government school students in MBBS and BDS admissions. The state BJP president VD Sharma said that the government's decision is historic.

In this regard, the Technical Education Department of Madhya Pradesh issued an order on May 10, 2023, making changes to the Medical Education Admission Rules 2018.

“Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has taken a historic decision to give 5% reservation in medical studies to promising students studying in government schools. With this decision, children studying in government schools will be motivated. There is no difference between the words and actions of the BJP. What we promise, we deliver," said VD Sharma, as reported by TOI.

“Madhya Pradesh is a state where the government is providing more opportunities to poor students. The state government is committed to the all-round development of students,” he said.

All India JEE NEET Students Association (AIJNSA) tweeted, "Great news for students in Madhya Pradesh! Govt. schools' students passing classes 6th to 12th will now get a 5% reservation for MBBS/BDS admissions. This move will provide equal opportunities to deserving students, irrespective of their economic background."

Madhya Pradesh is also the first state to start MBBS in Hindi. In October last year, union home minister Amit Shah released the MBBS books in Hindi in the state which started a debate in the whole medical fraternity that whether it is the right step to start medical courses in Hindi and other languages than English and what could be the implications.
