Mumbai: FORDA highlights bad infrastructure of JJ Hospital
The resident doctors of the JJ Hospital Mumbai had expressed serious concern over the decades-old hostel building that might crumble down anytime, and now FORDA also raised this issue.
The Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) has raised the issue of the decades-old hostel building of JJ Hospital Mumbai that might crumble down anytime.
FORDA's tweet reads, "The resident doctors hostel photos of JJ Hospital, Mumbai are a mere glimpse of how the residents struggle for basic necessities, across the country. Such treatment of the very backbone of healthcare system is shameful and demands the highest level of condemnation."
"Rickety and dingy hostels, limited access to clean drinking water, unhygienic and unkempt food & mess areas, infestation of parasites and bed bugs, run down and insanitary washrooms, non existent laundry services- These are some of the many problems faced by residents everyday," said FORDA's statement.
"Battling all of this, a resident doctor still performs his duties unfazed and undaunted, relentlessly. Sacrificing so much in the way. Is it too much to ask for reasonably sound facilities and amenities? That too when he pays an exorbitant HRA?! And precious years of their lives?," added FORDA.
The building is nearly 30 years old and there has not been a concrete renovation for a long time, and some of the problems faced by the residents are leakage from bathrooms, broken pipes, plaster from the ceiling coming off, huge cracks on the outside wall, and broken pillars.
Mumbai’s Guardian Minister Deepak Kesarkar recently ordered the PWD officials to fix the hostel building as well as other infrastructure that needs repair at the earliest, said officials at the hospital, as reported by Mid Day.
