NCISM denies admission to BAMS at ayurvedic college in Warangal

The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) has denied permission for admission to the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) course at the Anantalaxmi Government Ayurvedic Medical College in Warangal for the academic session 2022-23.

As per The Hindu report, the decision was taken due to the shortage of teaching and non-teaching staff, lack of a special website and absence of computerisation at different departments of the college.

The commission has issued an order cancelling the 63 seats in the first year of the BAMS course.

More Details

In August 2022, the commission carried out an online inspection of the college and its teaching hospital. The NCISM team found that the Anantalaxmi Government Ayurvedic Medical College and the hospital did not have sufficient teaching and non-teaching staff, doctors, basic infrastructure, website and minimum facilities and equipment at labs.

Reportedly, the college authorities were said to have written to the government to appoint permanent teachers and staff but there was no progress in this direction.

About the Anantalaxmi Government Ayurvedic Medical College in Warangal

The ayurvedic government medical college at Warangal is one of the two ayurvedic colleges in the Telangana state but the government had not appointed its teachers or doctors at the hospital attached to it since 2011. Even the non-teaching posts are lying vacant. As a result, the students are protesting frequently because their syllabus was not completed and they were not exam ready.

To overcome the shortage of faculty, post-graduates in Ayurveda were appointed as part-time teachers but they were not paid remuneration and hence is not turned out to be a useful solution.
