NDMC Medical College: Resident doctors send notice of pen down; warns protest from February 6
The Resident Doctors' Association of NDMC Medical College & Hindu Rao Hospital has written a letter to the medical superintendent of Hindu Rao Hospital regarding dissatisfaction among doctors due to unpaid dues and other long-standing issues. The association has warned about a protest from February 6, 2023.
The resident doctors of the NDMC Medical College & Hindu Rao Hospital have sent a pen-down notice to the medical superintendent of Hindu Rao Hospital and said that if their demands are not met, they will go on strike from February 6, 2023.
The doctors have said they have not received their salaries since October 2022 and the situation is so bad that they are finding it difficult to pay house rent and monthly instalments of loans and mortgages.
"It is not only our democratic right but also our moral duty to register our protest against these issues that not only affect the well-being of resident doctors but also patient care. Our pens will remain down from February 6, 2023, onwards till the date, our following genuine and basic demands are met," reads the letter.
NDMC Medical College: Resident doctors demand details
They have the following demands:
- Payment of due salary which has not been paid since October and regular and timely payment of salary going forward. Clearing unpaid arrears.
- End of exploitative 44 days contract culture and more regular/permanent positions
- Clean hygienic drinking water is accessible to patients, their attendants and healthcare providers on every floor of every building of the hospital where patient care happens.
- Basis humane working conditions include the availability of bedsheets for patient beds and for duty rooms of healthcare providers, hygienic toilets with a functional flush for patients and healthcare providers working in hospitals.
- Lockers in duty doctors' rooms and changing rooms to prevent theft.
- Removal of exploitative clauses from joining affidavits which serve the sole purpose of victimizing doctors demanding their rights.
