NEET 2021 aspirants are still waiting for the update on the application process and other information regarding the exam which is scheduled to be held on August 1. It is likely that there will be some concrete information regarding the timeline, application process and exam pattern by early June. On May 23, during a meeting to review the status of Board exams and national level professional entrance exams like NEET and JEE chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the Union Education Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ had sought suggestions from State Governments on NEET 2021 and other professional entrance exams and Board exams to be sent by May 25. Based on this, the suggestions are slated to be reviewed on June 1 and a decision regarding CBSE Board exam, followed by NEET 2021 is likely to be announced on June 3, or by the first week of June.

Dr Pokhriyal tweeted, “As envisioned by the Hon'ble PM, the meeting was extremely fruitful as we received immensely valuable suggestions. I have requested the State Governments to send me their detailed suggestions by 25th May.”

The Minister also said, “I am confident we will be able to arrive at an informed, collaborative decision regarding the Class 12th board exams and remove the uncertainty among students and parents’ minds by informing them of our final decision at the earliest. I want to reiterate that both students’ and teachers’ safety, security, and future are supremely important to us.”

The schedule of NEET 2021 will also depend on the dates of conducting the Board exams. NTA or the National Testing Agency, the conducting body of NEET must ensure that the exam schedule does not overlap with the Board exams. Aspirants should also get an optimum window for filling and submitting the application form and for correcting those. Hence, based on the speculations of CBSE Board exams scheduled between June and August, it is expected that the NEET 2021 application process will start from the first week of July and the exam will be scheduled in September.

NTA had announced NEET 2021 date on March 23. While it was announced that the information brochure and the application forms would be available shortly, it has not been released even after two months.

Last year, NEET was conducted twice, on September 13 and October 14 (for candidates who could not appear on the original date for being Covid positive). The exam was to be conducted in May, which was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The exam may get postponed further from August 1 in case the number of COVID-19 cases do not reduce.
