NEET 2022 results: More students from Tamil Nadu cleared exam, pass percentage dips

Amid the state's demand for exemption from the NEET examination, this year 10,572 more students have cleared the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) 2022 from Tamil Nadu.

National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) 2022 results were announced on September 7 by the National Testing Agency (NTA), and this year in Tamil Nadu 10,572 more students have cleared the NEET 2022 as compared to the last year.

However, the pass percentage has fallen to 51% compared with 57% last year. While last year 99,610 candidates appeared and 57,215 candidates qualified, only 67,787 candidates out of 1,32,167 qualified in 2022.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has declared a cut-off of 117 for the general category (UR) and 93 for the OBC, SC, and ST categories. The cut-off is far lower than last year (138 for UR and 108 for the reserved category). For the people with disabilities category, it is 105, down from 122 last year.

Tamil Nadu's demand for exemption from NEET

Every time around NEET exams and results, a few cases of suicide gets reported from the state and the state government blames NEET entrance examination for these cases. On September 7 also, one girl reportedly committed suicide after she could not clear NEET. The state has been demanding exemption from NEET and has sent a bill to the Centre for getting President’s assent for the state’s bill.

Tamil Nadu Health and Family Welfare Minister Ma. Subramanian recently visited Delhi and urged the Union government to get the President’s assent for the bill.
