NEET 2024 Counselling Round 1 Choice Locking Process Begins
The NEET 2024 counselling choice locking process for Round 1 has commenced today, August 20, 2024, at 4 PM. The deadline to submit the locked choices is 11.55 PM today. Candidates who have already registered will be eligible to lock and submit their choice of colleges and seats.
The choice-filling process, which had started on August 16, 2024, is also ending today at 11.55 PM. The registration process for NEET 2024 counselling Round 1 was conducted from August 14 to August 20, 2024, 12 noon. The application fee could be paid till 3 pm today.
Step by Step Process for NEET 2024 Counselling Choice Locking
Eligible candidates for choice-locking process will have to follow the steps given below:
- Visit the official website of MCC – www.mcc.nic.in/ug-medical-counselling/
- Click on the tab ‘New Registration 2024’ under the Candidate Activity section
- Log in with the registration credentials
- Click on the tab indicating Choice Filling
- Check the entered choices carefully and submit
- Click on the lock button
- If a candidate does not lock the choice submitted by him/her, it will be automatically locked as per schedule
- Take a printout of the locked choices
Important Pointers for Candidates Opting for NEET 2024 Counselling Choice Locking
Candidates must note the following points before the final choice locking process:
- The registration process including the payment of the registration fee is complete before proceeding towards the choice filling and locking stages.
- Male candidates must ensure that they do not select female-only colleges such Lady Hardinge Medical Colleges, New Delhi; BPS Govt. Medical College for Women, Sonepat; Ahilya Bai College of Nursing, New Delhi, to name a few.
- Once the choice locking process is completed, there will not be any option to revoke or change the choices. Hence, candidates must be careful during this process.
List of Candidates Converted to NRI for NEET 2024 Counselling Round 1
Meanwhile, MCC also released the list of candidates whose nationality has been converted from Indian to NRI. As many as 1,037 candidates are eligible for the NRI quota. Releasing the list, MCC has stated, “The above candidates have been converted provisionally from INDIAN to NRI for the purpose of UG counselling 2024-25 on the basis of scrutiny of documents sent by them to MCC of DGHS. However, the candidates have to produce the same original documents at the time of Reporting in case NRI seat is allotted to them, failing which their admission is liable to get cancelled.”

The participating institutes will process the seat allotment on August 21 and August 22, 2024, and the NEET 2024 counselling Round 1 seat allotment result will be released on August 23, 2024. Selected candidates will have to report to the allotted institutes between August 24 to August 29, 2024.

The NEET counselling is segregated into two categories, central or national, and state counselling. The central counselling for NEET is conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee or MCC. The NEET counselling process conducted by MCC is for the admission to the 15 per cent All India Quota (AIQ) seats. On the other hand, State Authorities or the Education Department of various states conduct NEET state counselling for the 85 per cent state quota seats. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducted the NEET 2024 counselling Special Stray Vacancy Round 3 from December 23 to December 30, 2024. The provisional and final results were declared on December 24 and December 25. The institute reporting process is being conducted from December 25 to December 30, 2024. There were three MBBS seats for allotment in this round.
The NEET 2024 counselling Special Stray Vacancy Round 2 was conducted from December 9 to December 16, 2024. While the payment and choice filling could be done from December 9 to December 10, the seat allotment result was declared on December 12, 2024. The institute reporting process is being conducted from December 12 to December 16, 2024.
The NEET 2024 Special Stray Vacancy Round 1 counselling was conducted from November 20 to November 30, 2024. The payment process was conducted from November 20 to November 21, 2024. The choice filling and locking rounds were held from November 20 to November 22, 2024. The provisional seat allotment result was declared on November 22, 2024, and the final result was declared on November 23, 2024, followed by the institute reporting process from November 25 to November 30, 2024.
MCC conducted the NEET 2024 counselling Round 4 from October 22 to November 5, 2024. The registration and choice filling process started on October 22 and October 23 respectively. The last dates of registration and choice filling and locking were extended till October 27 from October 25 and October 26 respectively. The provisional and final result was released on October 29 and October 30, 2024, respectively.
The Round 3 was conducted from October 3 to October 19, 2024.
The NEET 2024 counselling Round 2 concluded on September 27, 2024. The round started on September 13, 2024.
The Round 1 of NEET 2024 counselling was conducted from August 14 to August 31, 2024.
